Web Accessibility Help

There are adjustments you can make to your web browser in order for your web experience to be more accessible.

Resources for the Blind or Visually Impaired

If you have trouble seeing this webpage, the US Social Security Administration offers these tips for optimizing your computer and browser to improve your online experience.

  • Use your computer to read web pages out loud

  • Use the keyboard to navigate screens

  • Increase text size

  • Magnify your screen

  • Change background and text colors

  • Make your mouse pointer more visible (Windows only)

Resources for Mouse and Keyboard Navigation

You can use the TAB and ENTER keys on your keyboard for navigation if you find it difficult to use a mouse. If you choose keyboard navigation, it is recommended that you use the Google Chrome browser.

If you have difficulties using both a keyboard and a mouse, speech recognition software is available and may help you navigate web pages and other online services more easily. Dragon NaturallySpeaking allows users to navigate the screen through voice controls.

Resources for the Deaf or Hearing Impaired

There are several accessibility features available to you if you are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Transcripts

    • A text transcript is a text equivalent of audio information that includes spoken words and non-spoken sounds such as sound effects.

    • A caption is a synchronized transcript of the audio track of a video presentation. Captions are generally superimposed over the video, which benefits people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or anyone who cannot hear the audio.

    • Learn how to turn captioning on and off on YouTube.

  • Volume controls

    • Each video and audio service has its own set of volume controls as do your computer, tablet, or mobile device. Try adjusting your media players volume controls and your device's volume controls to enhance the sound.
